Using the scanner

How do I start?

Stand at the spot where the deer was hit and tap Start Tracking. The hit site is pinned for you and the scanner opens. Hold the phone about a metre above the ground and sweep slowly.

Red leaves are lighting up. What do I do?

Point the camera at nearby ground with no blood on it and tap Calibrate. The app learns the red already on that ground and stops highlighting it. Recalibrate when the ground changes — from maple to grass, say, or when you turn the torch on or off. Long-press Calibrate to clear it.

What do Strict, Normal and Wide do?

Strict ignores more red leaves but can miss pale, frothy blood. Wide catches old, dark or thin blood but shows more false alarms. Start on Normal.

Why does the phone buzz?

When a drop-sized spot of blood is inside the dashed circle. Large red areas are shown but never buzz — they're usually leaves. Turn buzzing off in Settings.

I'm colorblind. Which colour should I use?

For red-green colour blindness, the most common kind, choose Blue or Yellow — tap the colour dot at the top of the scanner. Try them on a red object at home first.

Does it work at night?

Yes — turn on the torch in the scanner, then calibrate with the torch on. The phone's torch is weaker than a dedicated tracking light, so work closer to the ground.

Hold: raw?

Press and hold the eye button to see the normal camera view — useful for checking a highlighted spot with your own eyes.

Marks and the trail

How do I mark a find?

Tap Mark for a drop. Long-press it for first blood, a pool, last blood, the hit site or recovered. Each mark saves a snapshot, the time and your GPS position.

How does "Back to last blood" work without signal?

GPS works without cell signal. The trail view draws your pins on a plain north-up plot that needs no map download, and an arrow points to your last blood. Hold the phone flat for the compass. Under heavy tree cover, GPS can be off by several metres.

Can I share a trail with a tracking-dog handler?

With Pro: open the trail and tap Export trail (GPX). Most mapping apps open GPX files.

What's free?

Five minutes of scanning a day and one saved trail. Your pins, the trail map and Back to last blood are always free — the app never locks you out of finding your way back.

How do I restore Pro on a new iPhone?

Settings → Restore purchases. Trails don't move with it — the app has no cloud.

How do I cancel?

Settings → Manage subscription, or in your Apple ID settings.
